Obituary of Hildamaria Back

Hilda Back, beloved wife of the late Paul Back of Calgary, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2007 at the age of 84 years. Hilda was a loving and passionate person who was fiercely independent and self-reliant to the very end. As the cornerstone of the family, she presided over all important family events and made them special. She enjoyed entertaining, and greeted her guests with lovingly cooked meals and desserts. Hilda cherished the time she spent with friends and family especially her grandchildren. A lover of learning, she took up computing later in life and would e-mail and instant message to her friends as long as her eyesight allowed. With friends from the Kerby Centre, she developed an interest in the French language. They met weekly to practice speaking the language over glasses of wine. She joined a singing group and participated in the making of a Christmas CD. When she could no longer drive her car, she walked to her appointments and destinations enjoying the outdoors at the same time. She was small in stature but giant in spirit, energy and enthusiasm and a go-getter to the very end. She will be deeply missed. Hilda is survived by her two daughters and two sons-in-law Uta and Brian Fox of Strathmore and Gina (Regina) and Brian Hindle of Calgary; five grandchildren Jason (Jacquie), Shelley (Tony), Diana, Matt (Laurel) and Ben (Lisa); four great-grandchildren Cory, Hayley, Reagan and Calla. Hilda is also survived by her brother Hans (Heidel) Adler of Phoenix, AZ and numerous other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Paul in 1985 and her brother Jurgen Adler.
