Obituary of Edmond John Melville
Edmond John (Ed) Melville, beloved husband of Judi Melville of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the age of 74 years.
Ed was born on March 30, 1933 in Drumheller, Alberta. He was an accomplished hockey player and received a hockey scholarship to Colorado College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1959. After graduation, Ed returned to Alberta to continue his career in the oil patch. Ed’s fifty plus years in the oil patch saw him work as a Mud Engineer and a Drilling Superintendent, but spent most of his career as a Drilling Contractor. He finished his career at BICO Faster Drilling Tools.
He married Judi Strandquist on June 24, 1967 and together they raised 2 boys. Ed was very involved with amateur hockey in Calgary with the Southwest Athletic Association (SWAA) and Calgary AA Council. He was one of the founders of the Calgary Junior “A” Royals Hockey Club of the AJHL, and served as President until his passing. He was an honorary lifetime member of SWAA. He was a member APEGGA and Canyon Meadows Golf & C.C.
Ed is survived by Judi, his loving wife of forty years; sons and daughter-in-law, Billy and Joanne and Eddie Jr.; and granddaughter Jessica, all of Calgary.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 – 24th Street S.W.) on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
