Obituary of Eric Waldman
Dr. Eric Waldman beloved husband of Martha, of Sundre, passed away at home with his family by his side on Monday, October 8, 2007 at the age of 93 years.
Eric was born on September 21, 1914 in Vienna, Austria. He received his Ph.D. in Biology in Vienna, leaving Austria in 1938 for New York City, NY. When the Americans went to war Eric felt it was his Patriotic Duty to join the fight for his country spending seven years in active duty and twenty-four years in the reserves. In the period from 1946 – 1949 he was the founder of the Western German Intelligence and this is where he felt he had the biggest impact in life. Eric retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. After active duty Eric received his Ph.D. in Political Science. He was a Knight in the Order of Malta receiving the German Order of Merit First Class. In his late years he loved to read, paint, and to hike. Eric deeply loved his family, especially his wife. He was a brilliant and modest man, and was always passionate about world affairs. Eric was a devoted teacher, mentor and a life long scholar.
Besides his loving wife Martha, Eric is survived by one daughter and son-in-law Heidi and Lee Kolstad, of Sundre, AB; son and daughter-in-law Christopher and Donna Waldmann, of Calgary, AB; four grandchildren Sonja, Joshua, Jonathan, and Kristina; and one great grandson Tresten. He is also survived by two bonus sons Giovanni (Kirsten) Gay, and Marco (Romy) Gay, both of Germany; and two bonus grandchildren Thomas and Felix. Eric was predeceased by his first wife Jo Ann, and his parents Sophie and Leo Waldman. He is deeply loved and will be deeply missed by his family and all that knew him.
