Obituary of Jessie Frances Gimbel

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jessie Frances Gimbel of Calgary on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the age of 92 years. Jessie was born on December 10, 1914 in Standard, Alberta and was one of seven children. She was raised on the farm and went to school in Standard and Strathmore. She met her husband Gordon in Turner Valley and was married in 1939. They resided in Morrin, Nanton, Red Deer and finally moved back to Calgary in 1996. Jessie was employed with T. Eaton Company for many years in Calgary and Red Deer, followed by eighteen years of dedicated service with the Red Deer Centennial Library. She was an active member of the Gaetz United Church in Red Deer, Westminster United Church and Living Spirit United Church in Calgary. Jessie belonged to Rebekah Lodge Golden Star #9 in Nanton and Alberta Rebekah Lodge #77 in Red Deer. She was also a long-time member of the Daughters of the Nile Sakkara Temple #115 in Red Deer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt who had a great sense of humour and always remembered a family member’s birthday with one of her famous angel food cakes. Jessie is lovingly remembered by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Murray and Veronica and Brian and Dolores; five grandchildren, Jacqueline, Blair (Donna), Bradley (Catharine), Troy and Shelley; six great-grandchildren, Erica, Byron, Grant, Courtney, Jacob, and Andrew; and many nieces and nephews. Jessie was predeceased by two sisters and four brothers and her beloved husband, Gordon who passed away in November 2006. She looked forward to the opportunity of being reunited with him. They are now together again.
