Obituary of Mary W. Pendrel

Mary W. Pendrel (nee Swan), passed peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at the age of 94 years. Mary?s long life listed many accomplishments. Working for Kent?s (Toronto) before and during the war, she made many jewellery buying trips to New York City. Ever a supporter of her husband and family, Mary (May) raised her children in Toronto, Fort William, Winnipeg and Regina as they moved with Jack?s career with the CIBC, before returning to Toronto. Athletic, she excelled in track and field, played for an Ontario Ladies championship softball team and was a champion five-pin bowler, amassing individual trophies in the Toronto Eaton, CIBC and other leagues. She golfed with considerable prowess. Generous and creative, she possessed a strong inner spirit and positive outlook which was an amazement and inspiration to all who knew her. Mary was dear mother to John V. Pendrel and his wife Annice of Calgary and Bruce A. Pendrel and his wife Johanna Bertin of Harvey Station, NB. She was loving grandmother to Jeff (Lara), Alison, Geoffrey and Catharine (Keith). She will be remembered by nieces Joan Nichols, Elizabeth Lightfoot, Marilyn Scott and nephew Jim Swan. Mary was predeceased by Jack, her beloved sweetheart, friend and husband through sixty-six years in 1997 as well as brothers Jack and Sonny and sister Isabel. The family wishes to express their thanks to Mary?s large support network. Her condominium friends in Etobicoke, Ontario and at Staywell Manor in Calgary will be fondly remembered. The doctors, nurses and staff of Unit 82 at Foothills Hospital were simply amazing. Cremation is to be followed by internment in St. John?s Norway, Toronto.
