Obituary
Obituary of Fraser William Lockwood
Late on Saturday, September 29, 2007, at home and in the arms of his family, Fraser peacefully passed away.
Fraser was born twenty-two years ago with a rare and difficult-to-diagnose syndrome. While his babyhood buddies grew tall, walked and talked, Fraser didn’t. But he smiled and laughed often. In his own quiet way, he got on with teaching everyone around him a whole lot about life. He made those who knew him better people. Fraser made our friendships stronger, our love deeper; and because of him we learned to appreciate life all the more. Fraser was a shining example of strength and spirit and he is a genuine reminder that the parameters of what makes a human life exceptional are vast. He was a fighter and as his end neared, he persevered until both of his sisters were by his side.
Fraser will be lovingly remembered by his mom and dad, Anne and Steve Lockwood, his sisters, Kenna and Julie and his long-time companion, Meli Manalo. He will also be sadly missed by his grandparents, Chuck and Bette Lockwood, Bruce and Shirley Watson; uncle Ian Watson and cousin Sarah; uncle and aunt Mike and Lois Lockwood and cousin Lindsay; and uncle and aunt Brent and Janet Watson and cousins Brooke, Riley and Emily.
The family would like to recognize and thank the staff of Emily Follensbee School for fourteen memorable years, especially Linda Quinn. Special thanks to Fraser’s remarkable companion and caregiver, Meli, who dedicated her life to him and for the unconditional love and devotion that extended Fraser’s life well beyond all expectation. Meli’s exceptional care allowed our special boy to live a rich and full life.
In celebration of Fraser’s life and to thank Meli and her community for their love and support of Fraser, we have created the Fraser W. Lockwood Memorial Scholarship Fund from which scholarships will be made available to assist Filipino children in pursuing their post-secondary education. We invite you to contribute to this fund through The Calgary Foundation, 700, 999-8 Street S.W., Calgary, AB T2R 1J5 Telephone (403) 802-7700.
