Cecil Johnson

Obituary of Cecil Helge Johnson

It is with great sadness that the family of Cecil Johnson announce the passing of their dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend in Calgary on Friday, September 21, 2007. Cecil passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Cecil was born in Berwyn, AB to Arthur and Ida Johnson. He was always proud of his Swedish heritage and had an enduring love for the “land of the mighty Peace”. Cecil joined the Canadian Bank of Commerce (later to become the CIBC) in Berwyn in 1946. He was transferred to several branches within the province of Alberta, eventually settling in Calgary. He retired as manager of the Chinook Centre branch in 1989 after forty-three years of service. He is remembered by his employees as a manager who always had a smile and who always backed them up. He is remembered by his clients as a banker who understood the importance of doing business on the worth of a person’s character rather than always “going by the numbers”. His true legacy however, is his absolute devotion to his family. He was a kind, loving husband who thought the sun rose and set on his wife of fifty-four years Mildred. He was his children’s biggest fan. Always there to support Lynn and Kevin in any way he could, they grew up surrounded by his love. That love extended to his grandchildren, Colin, Allison, Amanda, and baby Annaka who will miss him dearly. Always happy and even-tempered, Cecil was never afraid to show his love. He was a big marshmallow and proud of it. A truly kind, generous and loving man, Cecil now rests in the arms of our Heavenly Father. Cecil will be lovingly remembered by his daughter-in-law Sandee (Kevin); son-in-law Craig (Lynn); brother Evert (Margaret); and several brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as many friends. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews who all have funny stories and fond memories of “Uncle Cec”. Cecil was predeceased by his parents. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church (321 – 90th Avenue S.E.) on Monday, September 24, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church (321 – 90th Avenue S.E.) on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
