Obituary of Shawn Joseph Hyde

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shawn Joseph Hyde on Friday, September 21, 2007, at the age of 83 years. Shawn was born on July 4, 1924 in Macroom, County Cork, Ireland, and was the youngest of eight children. The family left Ireland and settled in New Westminster, B. C. where Shawn attended grade school, university, and served in the R.C.A.F. He began his career in 1960 with Loomis Armored Car in Vancouver and was transferred to Calgary in 1964 where he managed the Calgary office. He retired from Loomis in 1989. Shawn was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He was extremely proud of his family and his greatest joy was spending time together at family gatherings and special occasions. Shawn was very active in the North Glenmore Community, C.M.S.A., C.U.S.A., coaching youth, men’s and women’s soccer for over twenty years. In the 1970’s, Shawn and others recognized the need to provide the opportunity for girls to play soccer in Calgary. This need was met with the development of grass-roots soccer for girls in the Calgary area which eventually evolved into the girls component of the C.M.S.A. and the Calgary Women’s Soccer Association. Shawn will be dearly missed by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Teresa; by his sons and daughters-in-law, Sean and Wendy and Tim and Audra; by his daughters and sons-in-law, Colleen and Allan and Erin and Peter; and by his four grandchildren, Sean, Heather, Delaney and Mari. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters and brother-in-law Nonie and Joe Lehane of Vancouver, BC and Peggy Lynch of San Diego, CA. Shawn was predeceased by his siblings Ann, Kay, Michael, Maura, and Timothy.
