Anna Knittle

Obituary of Anna Marie Knittle

Anna Knittle of Calgary passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the age of 92 years. Anna was born in Balgonie, SK and was delivered by her grandmother who, like her mother, was a midwife. She spent most of her younger years in Lancer, SK, completing grade eight in a one-room schoolhouse to then help on her family farm and assist with domestic work for friends and neighbours. She married the only love of her life, Peter Philip Knittle in 1933. They, along with three babies in tow, moved from Saskatchewan to Alberta in a covered wagon in 1937 – this trip taking them approximately six weeks. Once settled in a two-room home near Clyde, the remainder of their eleven children started to arrive. When Anna had a farming accident in 1966, the family relocated to Athabasca, AB where she and Peter ran a UFA Bulk station until retirement. Lovingly know as Mom, Grandma and Grandma-great to all who had the privilege of knowing Anna, when she wasn’t brewing up a good home-cooked meal, she could be found knitting, crocheting or sewing. In her later years, her collection of china dolls was her passion and her great hugs her legacy. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Elizabeth Sale (Louis), Bernard (Cecile), Anthony (Kim), Werner (Pauline), Peter (Anne), Cathy Boutin, Theresa Rains (Howard), Rita Knittle (Gary Brandly), Sharon Biggs (Dale), Gloria Rothery (Adrian), Edward (Kathy); grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren too numerous to mention and her brother Clem (Barbara). She was predeceased by Peter, her loving husband of forty years; two sisters, two brothers; and three grandchildren.
