Obituary of James Arthur Sibthorpe

James Arthur Sibthorpe of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at the age of 84 years. Jim was born in Toronto, ON on April 17, 1923 where he resided until going to World War II; serving in Conn Smythe’s 30th Battery. Following the war he returned to Toronto and went to work at C.C.M. where he met the love of his life, Mary. They were married and moved to Calgary where they shared fifty-four wonderful years together until Mary’s passing in 2002. In 1957 Jim opened Bow Cycle and Motor Company Ltd. For the next fifty years, Jim’s passion and enthusiasm forged Bow Cycle into a Calgary Institution. In 1984 he was named Calgary Small Businessman of the Year by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. Jim was a member of the Earl Grey Golf Club and had many wonderful friends that he met over the years of business and pleasure. Jim is survived by his two sons and daughters in law Jim Jr and Charlene, Brian and Angela; his four grandchildren Ginger McManus (Mike), Joel Sibthorpe, Krista Bryden (Jared), and Kelly Bryden (Michelle); and great-grandchildren Shannon and Hailey McManus. He is also survived by his sister Marjorie Davidson as well as his sister-in-law Jennie Senior; his nephews Wayne Senior and Kevin Senior (Linda); and his special friend Joyce Taylor.
