Catherine Bolander

Obituary of Catherine Olive Bolander

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you. Phil. 1:3. It is with sadness that the family of Olive C. Bolander announces her gentle passing at the age of 77 after a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s. She will be dearly missed by her husband Rodney, beloved spouse and best friend of fifty years. Left to cherish her memory also is her daughter Janice (Calgary); her two sons, Grant and his girlfriend Loretta (Kelowna) and Donald (Vernon). She was especially proud of her grandson, Raymond (Calgary) who is grateful for his doting grandmother. Olive will be delightfully and lovingly remembered by her two sisters, Muriel Teece and Beverly Beatty of Fort Qu’Appelle Valley along with their families. Olive thoroughly enjoyed her close ties with Margaret and Tony Obrigewitch of Lethbridge along with the entire Bolander/Jorgensen clan. She always spoke so highly of her friends near and far of which she took great delight in keeping correspondence with over her lifetime; with special mention of her dear friend, Lily from Korea, a kindred spirit for which love knows no boundaries. Indeed, Olive never failed to tell us how much she loved us. Born in a wee hamlet of Birmingham, Olive’s parents, Leonard and Catherine Grant passed on a Christian heritage for which we are eternally grateful. She met Rodney in Saskatoon; they were engaged within three weeks and married in Esterhazy, SK. on July 29, 1957. As a devoted mother, Olive ensured every meal was homemade. She created a warm and inviting home environment for us. You could tell she loved the holidays and having her boys come home. She managed to find time to be a CGIT leader, a choir member as well as a member of UCW. Olive and Rod enjoyed the past few years with evenings out dancing, listening to folk music, bird watching, volunteering for Inn From The Cold and just each other’s company. Truly Olive will be most remembered for her thoughtfulness and gentleness as she strived daily to put forward a kind word and deed; she was a lovely reflection of Jesus and we shall all miss her. We can take comfort in God’s promise, John 11:26. Relatives and friends are invited to join us for a memorial service on Saturday, August 18, 2007 at 1:30 p.m to be held at Southwood United Church (10690 Elbow Drive SW). The Bolander family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bethany Care Level 7 and Rockyview Unit 59 for their timely support, kindness and dedication. We commend the Southwood community for their spirit and loyal friendship, thank you.
