Obituary of John Arthur MacLean
John Arthur (Art) MacLean, of Cochrane, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 9, 2007 surrounded by the family he so loved at the age of 60 years.
Art was born in New Glasgow, NS on January 18, 1947; he was the son of the late Sterling and Marion (Campbell) MacLean. He moved to Glace Bay, Cape Breton at the age of two, where he lived until graduating from high school. Following this, Art moved on to Dalhousie University. He married Anne in 1969, then completed an honours B.Sc. in Physics in 1970 and a M.S. in Geophysics in 1972. Art immediately began his career as a geophysicist in Calgary with Amoco Canada. In 1984 he started working for Rife Resources where he worked until he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2006. Art was greatly respected within his profession and most days found his work to be fun. Much of the enjoyment he derived from his work was because of special relationships he developed with many of his colleagues. Art was an avid hiker and cross-country skier, often spending his time in the mountains with Anne and dear friend, Dwight Nelson. He also took great pleasure in his country home, gardening, birding, travelling, the theatre, and spending time with friends and family. Art was an exceptional man, a loving husband and father who will be deeply missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
Art is lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend Anne (Lee) MacLean; his children, Allan (Stacy) and Lisa (Jesús); his brother, Gordon (Jane) MacLean; his sisters-in-law, Jill MacLean, Kathleen Lee, Marilyn Lee, and Wendy Lee; brothers-in-law, Bruce (Debbie) Lee and Paul (Connie) Lee; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert (Bobby) MacLean and Donald MacLean.
