Jacob Doruiter

Obituary of Jacob Doruiter

Jacob (Jake) Doruiter passed away on Monday, July 23, 2007 at the age of 37 years. Jake was born in the small town of Nederhemert, The Netherlands on November 23, 1969. The whole family immigrated to Chilliwack, Canada in 1981 when he was just eleven. From there they moved to Sarnia, ON, then Chicago, IL, Edmonton, AB, before settling in Calgary in 1991. Graduating from the University of Calgary, he then established a successful career as a geophysicist. Jake’s spirited nature was reflected in his many loves; travelling the globe, preparing delicious meals, bowling and gaming with friends and singing with the Men’s choir. Jake was an extremely generous person by nature, always finding ways to spoil his friends and especially his nephews. Seeing the big smiles on their faces was reason enough for him to put others needs ahead of his own. In the recent past, he battled courageously with cancer and beat it. Even though it returned this year, he did not let it interfere with his concerns for those around him. From our hearts, we say to you our dear son, brother and friend, we will miss you dearly until we are able to meet again in another place that will hold better things for all us. Jake is lovingly remembered by his parents, Gerrit and Gerrie Doruiter; his sister Corinne and brother Frank (Ronda); and his nephews Max, Gerrit and Josh.
