Obituary of Marianne Peters
Marianne Peters of Calgary passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the age of 91 years.
Marianne was born in North Battleford, SK. She was a proud member of the Taylor family and was one of twelve brothers and sisters. Raising her family was priority; her strong prairie upbringing often put her at odds with her children and others who were not yet aware of the “right” way of doing things. With a huge heart she worried about everyone and in later years was available to help maintain relationships with her brothers, sisters and others. Marianne was always a telephone call away from assisting family with either moral support in times of need or celebrations. She preserved her Saskatchewan, Taylor family traditions of “attending everywhere if invited”. Evidence of her strong will was shown in her personal accomplishments many of which were exceptional for her generation. In 1976 at the age of 60 years Marianne joined a cycle group that traveled across Canada to the Montreal Olympics on ten speed bicycles. She travelled the world over land from England to the Middle East on a self supporting bus tour with others half her age. Upon retirement with her husband Clare, completed a log home on new lands near Vanderhoof, BC. They lived and participated actively in the community for several years. She loved speed skating with her friends in Calgary and attending community travel functions throughout Alberta. In her words she enjoyed singing with the Bow Cliff Seniors and “entertaining the older people”. Marianne was a founding member of Woodcliff United Church and of the Spruce Cliff Community in which she assisted in the building years from a grass roots level. Marianne’s spirit and personality will be missed by all of her family and friends.
Marianne is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and John Tremblay; son and daughter-in-law Gordon and Beverly Peters; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Peters and Caralyn McDonald and by four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence in 2002.
A Celebration of Marianne’s Life will be held at Woodcliff United Church (5010 Spruce Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, July 5, 2007 at 2:30p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
