Obituary of Dorothy Sharman

Dorothy Sharman (nee Lansdell), beloved widow of Bernard; much-loved mother of Richard and Philip; grandmother to Keith; and mother-in-law to Jodey and Benoit, died peacefully on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the age of 89 years. Dorothy was born in Worcester, England. She attended the University of Leeds and studied Botany and Zoology. There she met her future husband whom she married in 1942. They enjoyed fifty-four years together. In 1966 the family immigrated to Calgary where she lived ever since. A life-long enthusiast for learning, helping, and fostering the same in others, she was always active in the community, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Prayer Book Society and the Womans’ Faculty Club. Always interested in languages, she returned to university to earn a Master’s degree in German literature in her sixties. She endured bombing in WWII and, in her later life, increasing disability, but met all challenges with grace and patience. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Barnabas’ Anglican Church (1407 – 7th Avenue N.W.) on Thursday, July 5, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Dorothy Sharman, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: (403) 241-0044.
