Obituary of Elaine Ripley

Elaine Anne Ripley passed away suddenly on the morning of Monday, June 18, 2007 at the young age of 42. Born August 1, 1964 to James and Susan Backhouse in Toronto, Elaine grew up in Ponoka, Alberta and graduated from the U of Alberta in 1986 with a BSc in Education. Elaine met Gerald while attending U of A and they married July 27, 1985. In 1992, the family relocated to Calgary where Elaine has worked as a Special Education assistant at Janet Johnstone School in Shawnessy. Elaine’s greatest accomplishments were her family, home, the many children she worked with, being a friend and providing a second home to many that needed it. She will be deeply missed. Elaine is survived by her loving husband Gerald; daughter Alysha; sons Bryce and Tim; her parents James and Susan Backhouse; sister Jane and her children Josh, Melissa and Mikayla; and brother Dave, his wife Belinda and their children Brendan and Eric. She will be remembered by numerous aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; friends and loved ones from Southern Alberta to England. A Celebration of Elaine’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Saturday, June 23 at 10:30a.m. A viewing for those wishing will occur prior to commencement of service.
