Obituary of Mac MacPhail

Today I lost my best friend, Mac MacPhail. Cancer snuck up on Mac, knocked him on his knees, showed no mercy and stole his life. You might know Mac as husband to Janis Risi, or as a Biker, Stained Glass Artist, Mason, Shriner, Electrician or a friend. Jay, Adam, Mathew MacPhail, and Jason Risi knew him as ‘Dad’. After living in Grande Prairie for over twenty-five years Mac and Janis moved in November, 2006 to Airdrie, AB to start their new semi retired life. Just two short weeks after their move the nightmare began and on June 17, 2007 Mac said I love you to Janis for the last time. Mac’s parents James and Laura passed in 1990 and 1987. With no siblings Mac treasured his boys and his extended Masonic family dearly but it was Janis that was in his heart the deepest. Whenever Mac was out and about on his bike friends knew he was just passing time waiting for Janis to join him. Mac has touched a lot of people over the years from his beautiful stained glass art to all the volunteer hours for charities. He was a founding member of the Arts and Culture Society of Grande Prairie and Toys for Tots. Mac gave a part of himself to every project he was involved with and he is leaving big shoes to fill. Janis and Mac’s kids request that all of his friends gather for a Memorial Service at Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel, 10005 – 107 Avenue, Grande Prairie, AB on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with an old fashion Scottish send off to follow at The Lion’s Den Pub, Mac’s favorite watering hole.
