Obituary of Mona Thomas

Mona Thomas beloved wife of Ray Thomas of Calgary, passed away at home after a courageous five year struggle with breast cancer on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at the age of 81 years. Mona was born in Moose Jaw, SK, but spent her childhood in Boston, MA and Cape Breton, NS. She moved back west as a young woman where she eventually met and married Ray in 1954. Mona was very involved in her church where she was a member for close to fifty years. She volunteered in various capacities over the years and was truly happiest when she was giving of herself and her heart to others. Mona and Ray travelled the world extensively visiting six continents, including such exotic places as Tahiti in the South Seas and Antarctica. Mona loved to do needlepoint, knit and crochet. Her beautiful handiwork will be forever cherished by her family and friends. Mona will be lovingly remembered by her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Rob Hiebert of Calgary and Laurene and Harvey Rowe of Boston, MA; her grandchildren, Chelsea, Paul and Jesse of Calgary and Austin and Ian of Boston, MA. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Rebecca McLeod, Lois and Don MacArthur, Lorraine Waslenchuk and Vera Beattie; her brother and sister-in-law David and Heather MacLennan; her brothers-in-law, Cliff and his wife Irene Thomas, Chuck Anderson and Al McQuitty and by a large extended family on both sides (MacLennan and Thomas). She was predeceased by her two sisters, Lila Heward and Jean McQuitty and by her sister-in-law Doris Anderson , her brother-in-law Art Waslenchuk and by her nephew Jordan MacLennan.. A Celebration of Mona’s Life will be held at Woodcliff United Church (5010 Spruce Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
