Obituary of Virginia May Layer

Virginia May “Ginny” Layer of Calgary, passed away at the Mayfair Care Centre on Monday, June 11, 2007 at the age of 91 years. Ginny was born on March 16, 1916 in Chicago, IL to Hazel and Edward McMahon and moved with her family to Calgary at a young age. After attending Washington State University she was employed in the oil patch where she met her husband Douglas Layer. They were married on April 29, 1949, and they made their home in Calgary. Ginny was an active sports enthusiast until her health prevented her participation, but that did not deter her from watching every sport she could on television. Ginny is survived by her niece Carol Firth of Lantzville, BC; and her nephew Bruce Copley of Las Tunas, Cuba. She will also be forever remembered as a special auntie to Lauren Burrell, Mark Lloyd, Mike Lloyd and families. She was predeceased by her husband, Doug in 1984; her parents Edward and Hazel McMahon her sister Dorothy Peffers; her sister-in-law Isobel Copley; her nieces, Anne and Linda; and her nephew Jim. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, June 15, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. .
