Weasel Child

Obituary of Weasel Child

Sonnie Adolphus Weasel Child, (Aaksistoisahkomaapi), the youngest son of Stan (Danita) Weasel Child and Elizabeth (Alain) Peace Maker and special companion to Jamie Little Light of the Siksika Nation, passed on to join his Creator and Ancestors on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at the age of 20 years. Sadly he was taken from us along with his best friend and brother Korrie Running Rabbit. “Sonnie Powers” blessed many people during his brief but eventful life with his loving and caring nature and will be fondly remembered as we wish him a safe journey into the next life. Sonnie had many educational, athletic and artistic talents. He will be remembered best for his musical gifts, especially writing songs and stories and playing the guitar and drums. Sonnie and his cousin Darren created their own production company, “Salute Productions”, and both starred in their first movie called “Burnt at 420”. He was raised in a traditional household as a descendant of the Sayiiksi and Iiksisakaoyiiks clans. He enjoyed many outdoor pursuits with his “Pops”, Stan, and his many friends and relatives. Sonnie was a kind, considerate young man who always helped his Granny Alice around her house and always checked on “Little Bit” at her house. We will miss his smile, his “perfect teeth”, his loud laugh, his walk, his ability to make us laugh, his sense of humor and how he always dyed his hair; we were never quite sure what color his hair would be the next time we saw him because his dye jobs never went quite right. Those closest to him are too numerous to mention, but in addition to his parents he will be sadly missed by sister BJ (Kelly); brothers Martin (Leah), Ritchie, Jayden and Raydell; nieces, Odessa, Ahneasha, Aleah, Ashlyn; nephews Anton and Aidan; step sisters, Jamilyn, Joni Beth and Jovy Scout; traditionally adopted brothers and sisters, Avery Water Chief, Vic Ewashko, Gerald Rabbit Carrier, Kim Bear Chief, Emily (Ace) Turning Robe, Sissy (Art) McMaster, Barbra (Desmond)Cayenne, Tannis Wright and Christine Duck Chief; grandparents Alice Weasel Child and Harvey (Catherine) Peace Maker; Aunts and Uncles, Rose Wolfleg, Elnora Scalplock, Ruth (Francis) Melting Tallow, Donna, Verna, Joe (Girlene), Eldon (Alvine), Joanne and Steph Weasel Child, Harvina (Gary) Red Crow, Harvey Jr, Eric and Orville Peace Maker. He will also be remembered by his adopted mother Donna Running Rabbit and extended families: Stimson, Yellow Old Woman, Delaney, Elijah Hunter, McDougall, Ayoungman, Yellow Fly, Fox, Calf, Brass, Water Chief, One Gun, Kipps, Spring Chief, Sun Walk, Pretty Youngman, McMaster, Mike/Gamble and numerous relatives from Standoff, Brocket, Morley and Saskatchewan. Sonnie was predeceased by his grandmother Lorraine Peace Maker; grandfather Sonnie Adolphus Weasel Child; Aunts Vivian and Anita Peace Maker and Dora Lee Weasel Child; Uncle Merlin Peace Maker; and cousins Kelly Red Crow, Jason Red Crow, Verna Wolfleg and Francis Weasel Child. Wake Services will be held at Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour (Siksika Nation) on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will also be held at Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour (Siksika Nation) on Friday, June 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Paul Little Walker Cemetery.
