Obituary of Mary Ward

Mary Cecilia Ward of Calgary passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at the age of 81 years. Mary was born December. 17, 1925 in Blairmore, Alberta. She was 1 of 9 children born to Mary & Joseph Gibos. In 1946 she married Earl Ward and in the early 50’s they moved to Calgary and raised four children. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, & great-grandmother. Her passions in life included family, bowling, reading and she took great pride in her flower gardens. She was an active member of St. Anthony’s Parrish, including the CWL and was a Eucharistic minister for many years. Mom and Dad were members of the Meadow Lark Park Community Association which Mom headed the social committee for several years. Mom was the type of person who never said no to anyone whether they were family or not, our needs were always looked after first. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Mary is survived by her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jeannie and John Crundwell, Colleen and Geoff Smolkin and Charlene Irvine; son Colin Ward; grandchildren, Carrie DeMaere (Jesus Lagunas) and Candice DeMaere, Laura and Tyler Smolkin, Logan Irvine, Cailean, Cody and Braden Elliot-Ward and great-grandchildren, Ana Maria and Sebastian Robert DeMaere. Mary is also survived by her sisters, Anne Hurtak and Irene and Helen Gibos and by her brother John Gibos. Mary will also be remembered by Logan’s dad, Jim Irvine. Mary was predeceased by her husband Earl; her sisters, Millie and Frances; brothers, Joe and Tom; her brothers-in-law, Joe Hurtak, Rossi Amatto and Joe Otteson and by son-in-law Bob DeMaere. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 7:00p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (5340 – 4th Street S.W.) on Friday, June 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
