Obituary of George Tyson Kirkby

George Tyson (Ty) Kirkby of Calgary passed away on Sunday, June 3 2007 at the age of 95 years. Ty was born on July 1, 1912 in Winnipeg, MB. He was raised in England and returned to Canada when he was 17 years old after losing his parents at a very young age. Ty married Eileen in 1948 at the age of 37 years. He began his career in the oil and gas industry as an accountant and retired from PetroFina (Petro Canada) in 1979. In his youth Ty loved to go hiking, mountain climbing and bicycling, but most of all camping with his family. In his later years Ty enjoyed travelling with Eileen, working in his garden, and he was an avid sports fan. Over the past three years Ty took pleasure in meeting people and making new friends at the Edgemont Retirement Residence. In 1971, Ty was able to reunite with his two sisters and family in England, and this brought great joy to him. Ty was a long time member of Pleasant Heights (Wild Rose) United Church. Ty is survived by his three children Darlene (Frans) Heynen, Brent (Lorie) Kirkby, and Blair (Ann) Kirkby; nine grandchildren, Craig, Robin, Blake, Dean, Clarke, David, Ben, Janna and Rebecca; and two sisters Paula Imbert, and Eleanor (Len) Harper, both of England; as well as several nieces and nephews in England and Canada. Ty was predeceased by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Eileen in 2004. A Celebration of Ty’s Life will be held at Wild Rose United Church (1317 – 1st Street N.W.) on June 15, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Parking restrictions will not be enforced during the Celebration of Ty’s Life.
