Obituary of George Roy
It is with deep sadness we announce that George Roy, beloved husband of Linda of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at the age of 59 years.
George was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on August 24, 1947 and graduated from The Dauphin Collegiate – Technical Institute in 1965. He then moved to Winnipeg where he attended the University of Manitoba and earned a B.Sc., BA and B.Ed. While at university, George met his future wife Linda, and they were married in 1972. In 1975, the young couple moved to Calgary. In December of that year, George began his career as a Child and Youth Care Worker at Hull Child and Family Services. In 1987, after fourteen years of marriage, George and Linda were overjoyed by the birth of their son Jeffrey, whom George loved very much. In 1989, after working at various front line positions, George took on the responsibilities of Coordinator of Training Services for the Agency. He remained in this position with Hull until the time of his death. In 1993, he earned an M.Sc. in related educational studies from Nova University in Florida. George was a man who loved his job and was passionate about his interests and whatever he did. He embraced life, was a voracious reader and had a life-long love of learning. Goodbye to a very loving, giving man, a dear son, husband, father, uncle, teacher, mentor, counsellor, writer and friend. Your memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives you have touched.
George leaves to mourn his wife Linda; his dear son Jeffrey; his mother Nell Roy of Dauphin, MB; his three sisters Denise Watts of Calgary and her husband Vaughan and children Cody and Marlee; Karen Roy-Nicholson of Dauphin, MB and her children Michel, Francis and Nicole LeBlanc; and Beverly McQuay of Dauphin, MB and her husband Bob and children Jocelyn and Hannah and by his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
