Obituary of Ruth Cruickshank

Ruth Cruickshank passed away peacefully with her family at her side, at the Rockyview General Hospital, on Tuesday May 29, 2007, at the age of 103 years. Ruth was born in Williamsville, New York and lived in Paris, Ontario, Toronto and Thunder Bay, before moving to Calgary in the 1950’s. Ruth met her husband John, they married in Calgary and together, they enjoyed nature, the mountains and travelling in Mexico, Hawaii and western Canada. Ruth continued to learn until her final days. She had taken a keen interest in Astronomy since her youth and loved her gardens and exotic flowers. Ruth worked as a Secretary to the Superintendent of Eaton’s Calgary. Her love of the written word saw her become Manager of the Paperback Department of Evelyn De Mille Books Ltd. for many years. Ruth assisted many University and High School students in choosing background course material. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her sister Joy Stewart of Deer Isle, Maine; many nieces and nephews, Dick Mair, Carol Thomas, Jim Bringloe, Jessie Walter, Wendy Smith, Jeremy Stewart and Jock Stewart and all of their families; as well as the extended Cruickshank family; her many friends and neighbours. She was predeceased by her dear husband John; sisters Dorothy Mair and Marguerite Fraser; brother Edward Bringloe; and nephew John Mair.
