Obituary of James Wallace Gorrell

Jim Gorrell, beloved husband of Lida Marie of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully at the Rosedale Hospice on Tuesday, May 22, 2007. Jim was born in Louisville, KY on September 20, 1943. He was raised in Mt. Vernon, IL, and earned a civil engineering degree from the Missouri School of Mines and Minerals (now UM-Rolla) in 1967, was a Chi Epsilon fraternity member, a Professional Engineer, a life-time member of APEGGA, and member of the Academy of Civil Engineers at Rolla. He worked thirty-three years for Brown & Root, Inc, of Houston, TX and for the past five years for AMEC, Inc, of Calgary, AB; and lived in Texas, Singapore, California, Abu Dhabi, Alberta, Alabama, Czech Republic, England, Egypt and Nova Scotia. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and enjoyed woodworking, camping, hiking, and travel. Jim will be remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife, Lida; son Harley; daughters Andrea and Lora Leigh; son-in law Jason Chrystal; granddaughters Ainsley and Elsa; mother Vivian, of Normal IL; brothers Bill (Toni), of Normal, IL, John (Joann) of Fairburn, GA; Paul of Norris City, IL; sister Polly (Bill Burnsed) of Cave Creek, AZ; father-in-law Basil Messer, of Fredericton, NB; brothers-in-law Duane Messer (Bonnie) of Fredericton, NB and Garnet Messer (Penny) of Orleans, ON; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. He was pre-deceased by his father, James Harvey and mother-in-law Ethel Messer.
