Obituary of Herbert Heinz Teitz

Herbert (Herb) Heinz Teitz passed away peacefully at home in N.W. Calgary on Friday, May 18, 2007 at the age of 84 years, where he lived happily for thirty-seven years and where he raised his family. Herb had a positive and content outlook on life and was blessed with an active and alert mind. Herb was born on August 27, 1922 in Bochum, Germany. He studied at the Institute of Technology in Stuttgart and the University of Heidelberg, earning a PhD in Geology. He married Irene Roser in 1955 and together they moved to Calgary in 1956. During his professional career Herb worked for several oil and gas companies both in Calgary and Houston, TX. He was most interested in international exploration. Herb successfully explored in Ethiopia, Madagascar, Guyana, Northern Canada and other parts of the world. He served on the editorial board of the Journal of Petroleum Geology and received a volunteer award from the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists. Herb enjoyed visiting with friends and family. In his younger years he enjoyed the outdoors, spending time hiking, fishing, hunting and skiing. Herb was a supportive and encouraging father and grandfather who always had time to spend with loved ones. Herb is survived by his two sons, Martin Walter Teitz and Armin Herbert Teitz; his daughters-in-law Charisse Teitz and Hope Teitz; and his seven grandchildren, Erik, Katrina, Joshua, Micah, Daniel, Nathan, and Abby. He will be dearly missed by all. Herb was predeceased by his wife Irene in 1999. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
