Obituary of Douglas Wray Thackray

Douglas (Doug) Wray Thackray, beloved husband of Patti Thackray of Calgary, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2007 at the age of 64 years. Doug was born on May 6, 1943 in Moose Jaw, SK. The family moved to Calgary where he then attended King George School. Doug starting working at Safeway as a Box Boy, but eventually worked his way up to management. His total working career for Safeway was forty-two years. Of that, he spent twenty-two years in Cranbrook, before returning to Calgary. Doug loved the outdoors – bush-biking, fishing and camping. He later acquired his Honda Goldwing. He also took up golf – even after all his derogatory remarks about being a golfer! Doug was noted for his very special dry sense of humour and endless comebacks. He is survived by his loving wife Patti; their daughter Lori – the light of his life; his constant canine companion “Annie”; his other children, Glen, Darren, Sherry, and Steven; two grandchildren, Tim and Kaycee; and his brother Wayne (Val). Doug was predeceased by his dad Frank; and mother Dot. A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Monday, May 14, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
