Obituary of Aurelio Ficaccio

Aurelio Ficaccio, beloved husband of Maria Ficaccio, of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at the age of 83 years. Aurelio was one of nine children born to Domenico and Teresa Ficaccio, in Sezze, Latina, Italy in 1923. He served for Italy during WWII and survived his time as a POW. He immigrated to Canada in 1953 with his brothers and married Maria in 1958. Shortly after, they delighted in the birth of their twins, Mauro and Loris. Aurelio lived and worked in the Italian community and retired from a life long loyal career of twenty-nine years with the City of Calgary. In his retirement, he enjoyed his grandchildren and passed on his love of sports and gardening to them. His greatest joy was his family. His presence will be greatly missed at family meals and gatherings. Along with his devoted wife, Aurelio was adored by and will be deeply missed by his son Mauro (Roberta) and daughter Loris (Vinicio) Sciore and grandchildren Marco, Alyssa, Steven, Cassandra and Sara. Aurelio is also survived by brothers Italo (Paolina), Rico (Eda); sisters Antonietta (deceased – Costantino), Elide (deceased – Elio) as well as numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and extended relatives in Canada, Italy, Australia and the United States. He was predeceased by sisters, Nella (Reg), Emilia (Luigi), Marietta (Giulio) and brother Adamo (Semina). The family extends heart felt thanks to the staff of Unit 54 at the Peter Lougheed Centre for the compassion shown to Aurelio.
