Obituary of Geraldine MacDonald

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the departure of Geraldine “Gerrie” Macdonald, who passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the young age of 68 years following a brief illness. Gerrie was born in Calgary on November 8, 1938 and lived in Calgary almost all of her life. She attended St. Mary’s Girls’ School and then went on to graduate from the Holy Cross School of Nursing in 1959. She met her husband David while working at the Holy Cross and married him on April 23, 1960. A superior registered nurse, Gerrie became the person to contact in any health situation. On many occasions, she took the time to give advice to family and friends about the health of themselves or their loved ones. Her experiences in nursing took her from emergency departments to Family Doctor’s offices, Occupational Health & Safety, Long Term Care facilities and finally teaching with the VRRI. An opera enthusiast, she cherished her season tickets with the Calgary Opera. Her bridge club (we love you ladies!) were a constant source of laughter and friendship and allowed her to travel to Ireland, Scotland, England and just last year, Tuscany. Golfing was her sport and she enthusiastically joined a golf league for the past many years. Gerrie is survived by her loving husband of forty-seven years, David A. Macdonald; her four daughters and sons-in-law, Tricia Macdonald, Heather and Len Webber, Teri and Brian McKinnon, and Jo-Anne and Kevin Watson; and by her son and daughter-in-law David Jr. and Jenny Macdonald. She also leaves her beloved and cherished grandchildren, Lauren, Jaime and Kelly Webber, Coleman, Blake and Justin Macdonald, Sarah, Kate and Connor McKinnon and Jillian and Erin Watson. Her family both immediate and extensive were also very important to her. Grieving are her brother Vincent (Dene) O’Connor; sisters, Marianne Longman, Shelagh (Larry) Hudon, Maureen (Bernard) Benning; Rita Bayley; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved twin sister Terrie, her brother James and her parents Henry and Marianne O’Connor. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (4718 Worcester Drive S.W.) on Monday, April 30, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. A private internment will be held at a later date.
