Obituary of Jack Ross
Jack Ross of Calgary passed away on April 26, 2007 at the age of 93.
Jack was born in Vancouver and grew up in Calgary attending Mount Royal School and Western Canada School (then CCI) in Calgary. Jack graduated from McGill University (1939) in Mining Engineering. Jack’s loyalty to McGill University, the city of Calgary and the province of Alberta was typical of a proud partisan.
Jack Ross was a well-traveled, educated husband and father whose varied work experiences and handsome looks made him a charismatic and entertaining man to all who knew him. From level boss at Noranda Mines to his special assignment on explosives in England (Wales), his stories enriched all listeners. Jack’s commitment to any undertaking guaranteed that the outcome would be the best. His work ethic coupled with a sense of fun were qualities that resulted in his being a lead person in his endeavours. He had a particular gift for hiring, developing and launching young engineers. Level boss in the mines, plant supervisor, chief engineer (California Standard/Chevron) were positions of responsibility Jack held until his retirement in 1975 after 30 years. His generosity helped out many local and national organizations over his lifetime.
Jack’s life will be remembered by daughter Nancy and son-in-law David; his grandchildren, Shelley, Ryan, Christie, Lisa, John and James Randall; his great-grandchildren Cate, Nicholas and Isabel; his daughter-in-law Kally; and his wonderful neighbours and many faithful friends. Jack was predeceased by wife Margaret and son Charles (Chuck).
