Obituary of Arthur George John Cowper

It is with profound sadness that the family of Art Cowper announces his sudden passing on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at the age of 73 years. Art endured a lengthy illness but he never gave up his desire to live. Art is survived by his loving wife Darilyn (nee Flank); sons, Corey (Alisa), Craig (Young-ju); and his grandchildren, Tiana, Teleah and Marisa. He also leaves to mourn a sister Jeanne (Chuck) of Thunder Bay, ON, who was his best friend; as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family. Art’s family and especially his grandchildren were the light that kept him going. His little girls are going to dearly miss their “Paka” but he will always be in their hearts. Art was born in Fort William, ON. He began his career as a steam engineer, working on the ships on the Great Lakes. Art and Darilyn moved to Calgary in 1968 where he was employed by Shell Canada at Jumping Pound Complex. After retiring from shell, Art worked at Midwestern Machine Works for ten years and would still be there had he not become ill. Art, when he was healthy, loved to golf and camp with his many friends and family. Everyone enjoyed his wonderful sense of humour, quick wit, his compassion for others, and his kind-hearted spirit. He was a good and decent man who will be missed by his family and all who knew him. At Art’s request there will be no funeral service.
