Obituary of Wilfred Hubert
Fortified with the Last Sacraments, Wilfred passed away Easter Sunday morning, April 8 at the age of 78.
Wilfred is sadly missed by his wife Ellen to whom he was married in 1950; his son and best friend Tim (Yvonne); and his two grand-daughters Robin and Tarin all of whom loved him dearly.
Born in Ashern, MB, his early years were spent in Ashern, Roche Percee and Estevan. A heavy equipment operator, he worked at Roche Percee Mines for five years. He served with the Royal Canadian Engineers during which time he spent three years with the British Army on the Rhine with 3 Troop, 1 Field Squadron.
On his release from service he moved to Calgary to pursue a career in motor mechanics, completed his course with the Apprenticeship Board with proficiency and spent two years in rental and leasing. With his experience in fleet operations and leasing he was appointed Fleet Manager with Scott National and was based at the home office in Calgary with responsibility for the operation of one hundred and fifty vehicles from the Kootenays to North Western, Ontario. He was a member of the Alberta Fleet Maintenance Supervisors Association and the National Association of Fleet Administrators. He retired in 1992 after thirty-five years in his career.
An avid reader, his favourite authors were Wilbur Smith, Tom Clancy and Clive Cussler and it was by the fireplace where he spent the winter months engrossed in his books. His favourite song was ?Little Things Mean a Lot? by Kitty Kallen. He liked gardening but when it rained he was a pro in the kitchen cooking and baking bread.
As Wilfred requested, private graveside services took place at Edenbrook Memorial Gardens on April 11, 2007, with Father E. Henkel officiating. Burial took place at the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
