Obituary of Rasma Biruta Ziemelis
Our family is sad to announce the passing of our Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma. Rasma passed away Friday, April 13, 2007.
Rasma was born in Riga, Latvia and immigrated to Britain after World War II. She met her sweetheart Janis and was married in Bradford, Yorkshire. Rasma and Janis were soon joined by Rasma’s mother Mile Weinbergs and two children. The family immigrated to Canada in 1954 and settled in Edmonton close to lifelong friends from Latvia. Rasma went to live with her daughter Parsla in Langley B.C. in 1992. In 2003, Rasma moved to Calgary to be closer to other family members. Her passions were many and included family and friends, flowers and gardening, feathered and furry friends and Latvian cooking. Rasma was a proud grandma and great grandmother.
Rasma is survived by her daughters Parsla (Archie) and Dzintra (Russ); grandchildren Kate (David), Christine (David) and Ryan (Alisa); and great grandchildren Gareth, Finn and Gavin; as well as nephew George (Vivienne) and niece Gunta (Viesturs) and their respective families. Rasma was predeceased by her husband Janis (John) on April 25, 1982.
