Obituary of Frank George Schweiger

On Saturday, April 7, 2007 Frank Schweiger passed away peacefully surrounded and cared for by his loving family. He is survived by his dear wife of forty-four years, Huguette (Leclerc) Schweiger; his three children Jim (Linda), Robert (Lori) and Catherine (Myron) Tétreault; beloved grandchildren Emery, Eric, Magnus, Mavrick, Cody, Elias, Reeve, Jacquelyn, Bradley and Pascale; sister Heidi (Warren) Roy and brother-in-law Conrad (Alma) Leclerc. Frank was born in Loon Lake, SK on February 1, 1938. His childhood was spent on the family homestead. He attended both the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Alberta. Frank was a proud member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta, as both a geologist and geophysicist. His working career started with Geophysical Services Inc, a division of Texas Instruments which took him and his family around the world. In 1977, Frank started his own seismic exploration business, CDX Limited, and achieved much success prior to selling the business in 1980 to Sefel Geophysical. Frank continued to serve as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sefel until 1984. Although Frank’s professional life often took him away from home, he cherished the summers spent at the family cabin in northern Saskatchewan on Lac des Iles. At the cabin Frank was able to share memories of his youth on the homestead and relished taking the boat to the beaches of his youth for unhurried days of bonfires, picking blueberries, waterskiing and fishing. His children fondly remember adventures to the old trapper’s cabin and lost gold mine. Frank filled his home with paintings by native artist Allan Sapp as they reminded him of his youth in remote northern Saskatchewan. After his retirement, Frank’s greatest joy was working on his farm. We will all retain in our memory an indelible portrait of him driving his tractor, tinkering in the quonset and fixing whatever was needed at the farm. Frank and his wife Huguette also enjoyed traveling the world, visiting dozens of countries from Brazil to New Zealand. Many happy winters were also spent at their home in Mexico. Once the grandchildren arrived, he would be found in the garage with them, teaching them the various uses of his vast array of tools. He was immensely proud of both his children and grandchildren and loved them dearly. He was a loving husband, great father and devoted Opa.
