Obituary of Al White
Al White (Elmer Weisz) of Calgary passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2007 at the age of 85 years.
Al White (Elmer Weisz) was born on November 12, 1921 in Muncas, Czechoslovakia, and immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1929. He grew up in Calgary with his parents, brothers and sister, and was the oldest son of a loving family. Al volunteered to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces (Army) in 1940 and served in Canada and Britain until 1946. He suffered a life long hearing loss as a result of rocket fire. After the War, he re – enlisted in the Canadian Army and spent time in the Yukon and on the DEW line. Subsequently he lived most of his life as a businessman in various cities in the United States returning to Calgary in 2005.
Al’s family in Canada and the United States are grateful that he lived a long and a full life. He was always known as an exuberant person who loved life and who valued his freedom and individuality.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Jewish Family Services (200 – 4014 MacLeod Trail SE, Calgary, AB T2G 2R7) or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Al’s family is grateful for the care and support that he received in Calgary from the staff of the Jewish Community Apartments, from Jewish Family Services, from Calgary Homecare, from Glenmore Hospital and from the Rocky View General Hospital Unit 82.
Funeral Services will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, (North East Corner of Highway 22X & 37th Street S.W.,) on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at the Jewish Cemetery (30th Avenue & Erlton Street S.W.).
