Obituary of Nicholas Clark Breaker

Nicholas Clark Breaker of Siksika Nation passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at the age of 39 years. Nicholas was born on May 2, 1967. He had a vibrant personality and was very outgoing and loved by everyone who knew him. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with honours from the U of C in 2003, majoring in history. He was also a member of the U of C Alumni. Nick as everyone knew him was involved in various events in the community of Siksika. He was an avid culturist and took pride in his knowledge of the traditional way of his people, participating in Pow Wows and Sundances. Nick was successful in carrying on his late grandfather’s dream (Chief Leo Youngman) of re-gathering the traditional sacred Sundance Societies. He started up the Bee and Mosquito Societies for all the children of Siksika where his adoptive son Kyle was initiated as a leader of the Bee Society. Nick was a member of the Calgary Stampede and the 1987 Young Canadians. He was also an active volunteer for the Siksika Minor Hockey Association and the Siksika Youth Awareness Week (Run As One). He was a proud supporter of the Calgary PSA Mustangs Hockey Club (Esso Minor Hockey Week and City Champs). Nick also carried the role of Youth Chief for Siksika as well as other roles such as an Altar Boy and MC for various functions. Siksika Nation has lost a valuable and prominent member who will be missed by all and will forever remain in our hearts and memories. His sense of humour was infectious as he always made us laugh. Nick is survived by his mother Marie (Arthur) Bear Chief; sister Delores (Marcell) Right Hand; brothers, Dwayne (Dionza) Breaker, Anthony (Kim) Breaker (Jina Fox ), Kelly Breaker; adoptive sister Louann Solway; adoptive son Kyle Breaker; adoptive brother Russell (Delcy) Running Bird; special girlfriend Cecilia Jerry; mom #2 Rachel (George) First Rider; grandmother Alma Young Man; adoptive grandmother Beatrice Poucette; aunties and uncles, Deanna (Bruce) Starlight, Debbie (Dwight) Smith, Louise (Jason) Pretty Young Man, Leo (Maureena) Pretty Young Man, Rufus (Yvonne) Pretty Young Man, Noreen Breaker, Patricia Breaker, and Fred Breaker. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, and extended families, Breaker, Turning Robe, Axe, Brass, Black, Backfat, Waterchief, Maguire, Cutter, Pretty Young Man, Crow Chief, Sitting Eagle, Good Eagle, Three Sun, Spring Chief, Yellow Horse, Weasel Head, Black Kettle, Calf, Bear Robe, Calf Robe, Medicine Shield, Big Snake, Sleigh, Black Rider, Olivier, Little Chief, and Running Rabbit. He was predeceased by his father Nick Breaker Sr.; brothers, Martin Breaker, Bradley Breaker and Kevin Running Bird; grandfather Chief Leo Youngman; grandparents, Fred and Ada Breaker; aunties and uncles, Lena Pretty Young Man, Faye Pretty Young Man, Andy Pretty Young Man, Harvey Pretty Young Man, Roy Breaker, Eileen Breaker, and Richard Breaker. Wake Services will be held at the residence of Nicholas Clark Breaker (Siksika Nation, AB) today, March 29, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation, AB) on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Little Washington Cemetery (Siksika Nation, AB).
