Obituary of George Douglass Holeton

Doug passed away peacefully in the Peter Lougheed Hospital after a brief illness. Doug was born in Olds, attended Calgary normal School and taught in rural schools. After getting a degree in Industrial Arts, he became a travelling shop teacher at schools centered in Trochu, Innisfail and Red Deer. After serving in the RCAF, he taught as an automotive instructor at Edmonton’s Vocational Training Center, Medicine Hat High School, and in Calgary at Crescent Heights High School. Doug always enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and travelling. After retirement, he liked to spend his winters in warm climates like Mexico and Arizona. As an active amateur radio operator, his VE6AGV call sign could be found on all bands and modes, in his search for contests and awards. He served as QSL manager for Alberta. Doug is survived by his son Douglas; grandchildren Andrew, Claire, Jeff, and Dan; great grandsons Connar, Ceigan, and Duncan. He is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Marion and Roz, and by his grandniece Sarah. Doug was predeceased by his son George, brothers Dick and Bill, and sister Mary. A Memorial Service will be held at Whitehorn Village (5200 44 Avenue NE) on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
