Obituary of Hughie Mckay Francis

Hughie Francis of the Kahkewistahaw and Siksika First Nation; surrounded by his family, passed away peacefully, in the arms of his daughters, after a short battle with cancer; on Friday, March 16, 2007 at the age of 75. Dad has gone with the angels that visited him through out his last days with us. Dad was born in Broadview Saskatchewan on April 11, 1931 (Kahkewistahaw First Nation) and was raised in the City of Regina. He proudly served his country as a Paratrooper in the Korean War in 1950. He then came home and met the love of his life, June. Whom he spent 53 years with. Dad loved his home on the Siksika Nation, but was a very proud member of the Kahkewistahaw First Nation. He took pride in representing his nation, as he was their last First Nation Veteran. Dad loved the spring as he was always caring for his trees and rose bushes that he planted and is now becoming a small forest. He worked very hard throughout his life, giving a strong example to his family and friends. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Dad leaves behind his loving Wife, June and his four children; Barry (Florine); Fonda (Faron); Verena; Craig (Lynn); 16 Grandchildren; Joni, Cassidy, Emily, Janine, Dale, Chanelle, Jason, Samantha, Theoren, Billyrose, Cassius, Graci and Presley; Greg, Shawna, and Carrie Taypotat. Two great grandchildren; Sayder and Casdin. One Sister, Helen (Larry) Larsen, her children Vera, Tracie, Ken, Sharon, Joe, Judy, Gary, and Robert; numerous nieces and nephews, in Calgary, Siksika, Vancouver, Nelson House, MB. and Regina, Sask. His family that he loved unconditionally; Charlie(Floria); Herman(Ida); Richard (Lorna); Ann; Marie(Tom); Geraldine(Buster); Jackie(Clarence), Jenny Goodin; Stan (Germaine); Laverna; Delia (Alvin) and all extended Families; the family apologizes if they have missed anyone as Dad had many family and friends. He was predeceased by his Parents Herbert and Mariah Francis, adopted son Wally Taypotat; sisters Myrtle Solway, Florence Spence, Selma Delorme, Kay Martin, brothers Lloyd and Ross Francis; Aunties Marie Pelletier, Harriet McHugh and Uncle Alec Ellery, and his dear dog ?Fro-do?. Dad will also be missed by his extended families in Siksika, Kahkewistahaw, Cowesses and Nelson House, MB. First Nations The family would like to thank Siksika EMS, Homecare, Crisis Team, Kahkewistawhaw First Nation, Siksika First Nation, Strathmore Hospital Nurses, Dr. Fanning and his God Parent Fred Chief who cared for him in his final days. Wake Services will be held at Sister Celine Parish Hall (Siksika Nation, AB) on Thursday, March 23, 2007 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation, AB) on Friday, March 24, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside to follow at Crowfoot Cemetery (Cluny, AB).
