Obituary of John W. Campbell

Dr. Campbell, beloved husband of Helen (Carabitson, Powell) and father to daughters Susan Campbell, Sharon Nichols (Dick), and Valorie Campbell passed away peacefully on March 19, 2007. John will be fondly remembered by his six grandchildren Sarah, Christina, Carolyn, John (Lindsay), Robert, and Katharine, and great-granddaughter Morgan. Remembered also by his stepfamily, Kim (Greg) Boyle, Mark (Pam) Powell and their children; Cali, Patrick, Ben, Sarah and Allison. John was predeceased by his first wife Evelyn Florence (Mills) in 1977; his parents John Alexander Campbell and Beatrice Jane (Phillips) and his two older brothers, Harry and Ray. John William Campbell was born in Retlaw, Alberta on June 14, 1916. When he was 10 years old, the family moved to Red Deer where John completed his schooling and developed his athletic and musical talents. In 1937 John became the featherweight Boxing Champion of Alberta. John had a beautiful tenor singing voice and worked professionally in Calgary in the early 1940s. For years he participated in quartets and enhanced church choirs as a soloist. John also was a talented amateur painter. After serving in World War II, John and family lived in Calgary until 1955 when they moved to Kelowna, B.C.. John had a career change in 1958, returning to college to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. In his long professional career he used his expertise for the benefit of others. This gave him great joy. John was a long-time member of Rotary International, first joining in Kelowna in 1956. In 1963 he became a member of Manchester Rotary and most recently received an honorary lifetime membership in the South Calgary Rotary Club. In June 2006, John celebrated his 90th birthday with family and friends. He remained in relatively good health until very recently. Services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at the Richmond Hill Baptist Church, 7251 Sierra Morena Blvd, SW at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Ray Matheson of First Alliance Church, Presider.
