Obituary of Cody Orrin Labelle

Cody Orrin (Coutts) Labelle, born July 10, 1974 sadly passed away March 18th, 2007 at the age of 32 years. Great grandson of Tatanga Mani, “Walking Buffalo”, George McLean, Coutts was a man with a good and caring heart. Understanding the value of retaining his culture, he excelled as a hunter, bringing this teaching to life and keeping this value alive in the Stoney community. He loved to talk, and was a friendly person who looked forward to all life’s challenges. As a natural sportsman, Coutts started playing hockey at 4 years old, going on to play for the Banff AAA Bantams, Grand Prairie Chiefs and was selected to play for the Portland Winterhawks. He rode saddlebronc, took up steer riding and team roping and played football and baseball. In his early years he was also a grass dancer. Attending school in Morley, Springbank and Calgary, Coutts developed a knack for fixing vehicles and loved to work with tools. He shared his talents by working for the Stoney Tribal Administration. Coutts leaves to mourn his loving family, mother, Madeline Labelle; wife, Stanna Wesley; his children, Angel, Jayce, Vance, Kalli, and Cody Jr.; his sister Tiona (Ken); brothers, Brennan, Lonnie (Rolanda), Monte (Cheryl), and Ace (Raquel); special niece and nephew Tierra (Eli), and Trendon; special sister and auntie, Pamela (Keon); father, Cody (Anita); half sisters Kyla and Alanise; and half brothers Steven and Lyle; grandfathers, Bill McLean and Earl Widman; grandmothers, Edna Simeon and Alva and Cassie Lefthand; uncles, Maurice (Verna), Myles (Rebecca), Rudy, Garnett (Miranda); aunties, Myra, Muriel, Laura (Louis), Germaine, Marilyn (Hank). Other close relatives he leaves to mourn include the Labelle, Ear, McLean, Kootenay, Dixon, Poucette, Simon, Crane, Bigplume, Thunderchild, Goodin, Simeon, Abraham, Beaver, Lefthand and Wesley families. Others who will miss Coutts include many cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and one granddaughter, Alva Snow. Coutts was predeceased by a brother Emmett; grandmother, Caroline; uncles, George and Eldon; cousins, Jeremy, Craig, Carmella, Dorlisa and Noelle. Wake Services will be held at the residence of Madeline Labelle, (Morley, AB) on Wednesday, March 21, 2007. Funeral Service will be celebrated at the Morley Gymnasium, (Morley, AB).
