Obituary of James Crawford

James (Jim) Crawford beloved husband of Rosemary Crawford, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2007 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Jim was born in Brandon, MB, where he attended Brandon College, now Brandon University, and graduated with a General Science Degree in 1956. He then worked as a well site consultant in Saskatchewan and later went to the University of Saskatchewan to obtain his Geology Degree. Jim went onto study law at the University of Manitoba where he graduated in 1964. After graduating he articled at the law firm of MacLeod Dixon in Calgary and then went on to practice corporate law for Westburne Industries. In 1968 he joined CIGOL which later became Norcen Energy. In 1977 Jim went into private practice with the late John G. McDonald at the firm of McDonald and Hayden. Jim was awarded his Q.C. in 1988 and continued in private practice until retirement in 2006. Jim was actively involved with the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society which he was president of in 1971. His love of the outdoors took him to his beloved mountains and on many hikes. Jim’s many hobbies included playing chess, enjoying good food, good company and good wines. He was past president of the IWF&S, also a member of La Commanderie de Bordeux. Jim spent many lunch times at the Calgary Petroleum Club discussing his latest oil deals or law. He also helped at many Rotary functions especially their summer barbeques. Jim will be sorely missed by his beloved wife, children, granddaughter and good friends. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Rosemary; his children, Nancy, Mary Jane, and Charles; and his granddaughter Yelena (Pumpkin). A celebration of Jim’s life will be held Christ Church Elbow Park, 3602 – 8th Street S.W. on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
