Obituary of George Wahl

George Wahl beloved husband of Irene Wahl of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at the age of 82 years. George Wahl was born on August 23, 1924, in Scott, Saskatchewan. He was one of seven children born to Adelbert and Marjorie Wahl. George loved his small town upbringing in Tramping Lake, and was very proud of his Saskatchewan roots. He married Irene Laturnus on June 19th, 1950 and moved his growing family to Calgary in 1956. George had a long and successful career in the oil patch where he eventually became the Vice President of Land for Great Basins Petroleum. George loved to golf and was an enthusiastic member at the Elks Club from 1969 until August 2005, when he had to give up the game due to his declining health. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus and attained the level of Faithful Navigator. George had a sharp mind and an incredible memory. He loved to discuss politics with anyone who would listen. George was a natural talent with numbers and was very meticulous with keeping financial records. He was most proud of his family. George took particular pleasure in measuring the size of each of his newborn grandchildren’s feet. He spent many hours watching his grandchildren participate in a variety of activities and was eagerly anticipating a family wedding this May. George liked nothing better than big family get togethers, and he will be dearly missed at all of our future gatherings. George is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Irene, and their eight children: Bill Wahl, Jim and Heather Wahl, Laurie Perullet, Patti Wahl, Audrey and George Grant, Tom and Annemarie Wahl, Joan and Darryl Chambers and Jane and Chris Ellingson; his thirteen grandchildren, Jonathan, Leah, Caroline, Bill, Daniel, Michelle, Ryan, Adam, Taryn, Alana, Krista, Kennedy and Cam, and his two step grandchildren, Ryan and Sarah. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Holy Name Catholic Church (2223 – 34th Street S.W.) on Monday, March 12, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church (2223 – 34th Street S.W.) on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 3:00p.m. with the Rev.
