Obituary of Phyllis Guterson

Phyllis Guterson, beloved wife of fifty-seven years to George Guterson, passed away into God’s loving arms at the Rockyview General Hospital at 7:45 a.m., on Monday, March 5, 2007, at the age of 78 years. Phyllis was born in Edmonton on April 19, 1928. She received her former schooling in the Rollyview School District, Leduc, AB. Phyllis began her practical nursing career at the Ponoka Medical Hospital in 1946, where she met her future husband George. When George returned to Drumheller, Phyllis followed and continued her career at the Drumheller General Hospital. George and Phyllis were married in Drumheller on July 18, 1949 and moved to Calgary in 1955, where she continued her career in nursing. Phyllis retired in 1990 from the Bethany Care Centre. Phyllis was loved by many and will be remembered for her kind spirit and extreme generosity. She was very proud of her husband, children and grandchildren, family meant everything to her. Phyllis is survived by her loving husband George; her children, Jeanette (Al) Holt of Calgary, Tim (Carolyn) of Edmonton, Tom (Janet) and Peter (Colette) all of Calgary; grandchildren, Christopher, Catherine and Steven Holt, Mathew and Kaitlyn Guterson, David and Derek Guterson and Nicolaas and Gracie Guterson; brother Al (Irene) Bendick of Kamloops; sister Kathleen Short of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, David and Alma Bendick; son David Guterson in 2000; and infant son George Guterson in 1952. Prayers and tributes will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, March 9, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Our family would like to thank the Calgary EMS, the Calgary Fire Department as well as the staff at the Rockyview General Hospital for their outstanding care and support in helping us deal with the last moments of Phyllis’ life.
