Obituary of Guenter Gerhard Woeste

Gordon Woeste passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at the age of 82 years. Gordon spent his youth growing up in Germany just prior to WWII. He had an eventful life and was drafted in the German Army as an artillery observer. His military career ended at the age of twenty-one in a British P.O.W. camp after having attained the rank of Lieutenant. Gordon spent the next years in the construction industry attaining his certification as a master mason and continuing his studies as an architectural draftsman. In 1950 he married his wartime sweetheart Ruth, and began to raise a family that by 1955 numbered three children with a fourth on the way. That year he immigrated to Canada to start anew. By 1959 he was joined by Ruth and the four children in Bowness, Alberta. Another child, Betty, came along in 1961. Gordon served for twenty years with the Federal Government of Canada as an Architectural Technician and Building Project Supervisor. He also found time to serve as Vice-President of the German-Canadian Club and spent twenty-two years as a Mason and Shriner. He was often seen marching in parades as a member of the Shriner?s Oriental Marching Band. Gordon is lovingly remembered by his wife Ruth; two sons and three daughters, Peter Woeste and Nicole Forest, of Vancouver, BC, Gordon Jr. and Kory Woeste, of Delta, BC, Annette and Reid Hutchinson, of Calgary, AB, Ursula and Rick Simpson, of Vancouver, BC, and Betty and Kelly Bauman, of Delta, BC; eleven grandchildren, Tyson, Sophie, Tyler, Reagan, Ryan, Dallas, Cody, Cale, Brett, Riley, and Adam; and five great-grandchildren, Diego, Tate, Hayden, Leah, and Saxon. Gordon was predeceased by his mother, Emmi Woeste, in 1985. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY?S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
