Obituary of Evelyn Haynes

Evelyn Haynes, beloved wife of Albert Haynes, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the age of 84 years. Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of fifty-nine years Albert; her son and daughter-in-law Douglas and Mercy Haynes; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and David Sinclair, Marguerite and Wayne Fraser, daughter-in-law Wilma; grandchildren, Julie and Mark Haynes; and her sister Ivy Hamp. Evelyn was born in Calgary and raised on a farm east of Carstairs. She met Albert while working in Okotoks in 1946 and they married in 1947 in High River. Due to Albert’s job with the CPR, they lived in several small towns in Southern Alberta. They were able to return to Okotoks in July of 1969. In 1989 they retired to Calgary to a place with a wonderful view of the city that they really enjoyed. Evelyn served in the RCAF from 1942 to 1944. Most of her service was spent in the Parachute Division based in Claresholm. In 1946 and 1947 she attended the Canadian Vocational Training Centre, taking a dressmaking course. She sewed clothes for herself, her children and friends. Evelyn was a stay-at-home Mom who loved to garden and spend time with family and close friends. Even after moving into the city she grew beautiful flowers on her balcony and inside her home. She always had an artistic talent and was able to take painting lessons later in life. Evelyn was a member of the Okotoks and District Seniors Club and served as President for several years. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease shortly after celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary, but Albert took care of her until December 2004 when she moved the Mayfair Care Centre. In September 2005 she moved to the Beverly Centre in Midnapore to be closer to Albert. The family would like to thank the staff at both Care Centres for taking care of her. Thanks also to Dr. Safran who was so helpful and thoughtful to us over the years. A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Okotoks and District Seniors Club (204 Community Way, Okotoks, AB) on Friday, March 9, 2007 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
