Obituary of Maude Stafford

Maude Stafford passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at Bethany Harvest Hills Centre at the age of 89 years. She will be greatly missed by daughters Carol (Norman) Morrison, Gay Stafford (Don Arnold) and Janice (Ray) Lauzon, grandchildren Leanne Morrison (Dave Acorn), Tammy (Ed) Bartlett, Dean (Christine) Morrison, Scott Arnold, Kari (Dave) Harder and great-grandchildren Briana and Braeden Bartlett, Emily, Kellan and Kayla Harder and Matt Acorn. Maude was predeceased by her husband Mervin in 1986 and also by two brothers, Louis and Joe Lennon and three sisters, Anne Bannister, Margaret Reid and Frances Williams. She was born November 14, 1917 to John and Luella Lennon and was the last surviving member of the family who were raised on their homestead west of Crossfield, Alberta. Following her education at Sunshine School, she worked for various families as a domestic helper. She and Mervin were married in 1940 and together farmed east of Crossfield. They moved to Crossfield in 1958 and then to Calgary (Acadia) in 1969. Maude worked for many years at Golden West Seeds and Golden Acre Garden Centre where she exhibited her knowledge and love of gardening, flowers and animals. She was active in the Crossfield CWL and FWUA in earlier years and later with Fish Creek Seniors, Alberta Roamers and seniors’ bowling in Calgary. She and Mervin enjoyed several winters in Arizona and made many good friends. In the years following his death, she was an enthusiastic participant in social activities at Casa Del Sol Mobile Home Park and enjoyed visits from family and friends. Maude will be remembered as a strong and independent lady with a quick sense of humour. She was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a trusted and loyal friend. Her family thanks all those who have helped us care for her over the recent years, especially the staff of Bethany Harvest Hills.
