Obituary of Clayton MacLachlan
A true Gentleman with a kind soul, Clayton MacLachlan passed away on Friday, February 23, 2007 at the age of 85 years.
The “Doog” as he was known by many, grew up in Jasper enjoying the outdoors and passed that passion onto to his family. Although afflicted with Alzheimer’s, Clay remained the kind and caring person he always was. Clay was always there to see his daughters’, son’s and grandchildren’s events, be they sports, dance, music or school. Clay was always a presence at any event and known by all. The grandkids could always look forward to a “reward” after competing. Never one to shy away from the work to be done, he volunteered many hours in support of ski racing. He loved music, dancing, sports and working in the yard. Clay served in World War II with RCAF 408 Squadron complete with time in Europe hosted by the Underground after an unplanned stopover in Belgium. He was an amateur carpenter with skills learned from his father, but applied them only to projects for family and friends while undertaking a long career with B.F.Goodrich of Canada.
Clay is survived by children Gail Becker, Carol (Larry) Baker and Darrell (Lorna) MacLachlan; Grandchildren Neal (Christine) Baker, Heather Baker (Kristian) and Alison MacLachlan (Dane) plus great granddaughter Sydney Baker. Clay was predeceased by his wife Eileen in 2001
