Obituary of Mikiko Yamamoto

Mikiko (Miki) Yamamoto, beloved wife of the late Kayo Yamamoto, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at the age of 85 years. Miki was born on September 27, 1921 in Steveston, B.C. to Mitsutaro and Risa Nakane. She received her education in Steveston, trained as a seamstress and she worked on the family farm. Her family was relocated to Magrath, AB in 1942. Kayo and Miki were married on January 18, 1947 and began raising their family. She worked in banking in Magrath and Calgary and retired from the Calgary Catholic School District financial offices in 1986. Miki worked hard all of her life taking a particular interest in gardening and supporting her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Roger (Mary) Yamamoto of Richmond, BC, Terry (Merv) Swan of Houston, TX, Ann Yamamoto of Edmonton, AB and Shelley Yamamoto of Calgary, AB; six grandchildren, Jared (Natalie) Swan, Darrell (Sara) Swan, Courtney (Marti) Pickett, Matthew (Janice) Swan, Grayden Swan, and Megan Swan; and by her seven great-grandchildren, Emma, Daniel, Mya, Zackery, Riley, Samuel and Sophie. She is also survived by her three sisters, Sakie Nariiwa of Richmond, BC, Michie Chiang of Portland, OR, and Isoko Motomura of Dundas, ON; and her one brother Mitsuo Nakane of Burnaby, BC. She was predeceased by her husband, Kayo, in 2005, her sister, Yoshie Tsuji and her great-grandson, Harrison Pickett.
