Obituary of James Clare Hamilton
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clare Hamilton, beloved husband of Christina Hamilton of Calgary on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at the age of 76 years. He passed away just one day after his 76th birthday.
Clare was born and raised on a farm near Shoal Lake, Manitoba and there he developed an enduring interest in the outdoors and a respect for hard work and all those he met. He married Christina Grace Bernhardt in Coronation, AB in 1955. They raised four daughters while traveling with the seismic industry until settling in Edmonton in 1965. In 1972 they moved to Calgary where they still reside. Clare had a long and rewarding career with Imperial Oil, working in the seismic industry, he made numerous friends, had interesting experiences and a wealth of tales to tell. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a fine sportsman. He was a consummate hunter and fisherman and taught his love and respect for the outdoors. Clare was an avid golfer (Calgary Elks) and curler (Calgary Curling Club) for many years and developed lifelong friends. Clare was a talented bridge player, delighting in the occasional grand slam and the finer points of bidding. His gentle spirit will live on in the minds of many. The world is a better place for having known you, James Clare Hamilton.
Clare will be forever missed and fondly remembered by his loving family; his wife Christina; daughters, Laura (Mike) McCormack, Katherine Hamilton and Carol Dimond; two adoring grandsons, Andrew McCormack and Bradley Dimond. He is also survived by his brother, Blaine (Marilyn) Hamilton of Calgary; his sister Gwen Anderson of Vancouver and his sister-in-law, Beth Campbell of Lethbridge. Our good family friend Pamela Sedore will also miss Clare’s fine sense of humour. Clare was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Hamilton and his brother Howard Hamilton.
