Obituary of Janet McMillan Darroch
Jan Darroch passed away in Calgary on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the age of 94 years.
Life began for Jan on May 2, 1912 in Kennedy, SK when she joined her Mother, Father and sister Margaret just in time for their move to Red Deer. In 1918 the family relocated to a farm outside Lacombe where Jan grew up, attended high school and continued to live for a few years until she moved to Calgary. Once in Calgary she worked for various companies before completing a Bookkeeping and Accounting course and settling in with the Calgary Public School Board in an administrative role until her retirement in 1977. One of her passions was travel and once she retired she was always going somewhere – be it Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, Cook Islands, Alaska, cruising the Caribbean or another trip to the US, particularly Texas. Another of her passions was friendship and she developed an extensive network of friends throughout her lifetime. She was always just a phone call away to listen or lend a hand. Her willingness to be there for others was a constant throughout her life and she will truly be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Jan was predeceased by her brothers, George and John, and is survived by her sister Margaret Barker of Lacombe (age 96); sisters-in-law Gladys (George) and Edna (John); numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
